Designer: Alvar Aalto
The Aalto vase dates back to 1936 and was first presented at the Paris World Fair the following year. Inspired by waves (“aalto” in Finnish), the vase is a symbol of Finnish design and one of the most famous glass objects in the world. Each and every vase in the Alvar Aalto Collection continues to be mouth blown at the Iittala factory. The Collection is a staple of modern Scandinavian design and Iittala’s most iconic series.
Revered as one of the greatest names in modern architecture and design, Alvar Aalto redefined Scandinavian design in 1937 when he presented his vase collection at the Paris World Exhibition. During his celebrated career, Aalto designed a diverse range of buildings worldwide, such as concert halls, libraries, hospitals, museums and private homes, including the Villa Mairea.
