Essence 2001
With his Essence collection, Häberli designed something that was at once contemporary and classic – a few glasses that could serve a full collection of fine wines. Side by side they reveal a noticable sense of balance with the stem and base being of the same size. Sensually pleasing to embrace and hold, Essence makes fine wines even more enjoyable.

Glass
The glass used in Iittala glassware is superior quality and very clear optically. It resists both chemical and mechanical deterioration well. All of Iittala’s utility glasses can be washed in the dishwasher. To clean these items use a dishwasher or an ordinary dish washing detergent and a soft dish washing brush. Rinse well and leave to dry or dry with a soft cloth. Glass should not be used in microwave oven.
Dishwasher safe
Iittala items labeled with the “dishwasher safe” logo can be cleaned in the dishwasher. Place the dishes in the dishwasher so that they do not contact each other during the wash cycle, as that may result in chipping. Fill the dishwasher evenly on the top and bottom levels. Rinse dirty dishes before placing them in the dishwasher to be cleaned. For example, rinsing glass products with dairy residue is recommended as dairy products can leave a cloudy film on the glass when washed in high temperatures. The surface area of glass increases when heated and therefore glass should not be placed on top of one another while still warm from cleaning as they then may stick together and break. Delicate stemware, pitchers and containers, cups, large-footed dessert bowls and objects with glass of different thickness should be washed by hand.
Designer
Alfredo Häberli was born in 1964 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He studied industrial design in Switzerland. Today, he is a well-known international designer based in Zurich. In his designs, Häberli successfully combines tradition and renewal. There is joy and energy in his designs. The human being is the starting point of Häberli's design process. His objects and structures are designed to be used. He is unprejudiced and inventive in his observation of the actual situation in which an object is used and does not create form for the sake of it. Based on his insights, he designs changes to the archetypes of objects that have developed through the times, which makes the everyday objects around people fit this time and the situation they are used in precisely.
